The Grace Council is excited to announce the creation of a new staff position for our congregation: Director of Spiritual Formation.  Previous staff member Laura Bourdo was installed last Sunday to take on these part-time duties.  The purpose of this position is to enhance the congregations individual relationships with God through activities such as prayer, meditation, study, small group support, and periodic retreats.  Laura can be reached for more information at 713/467-4757.

Join us at 9am or at noon on Sunday mornings for an hour of prayer and discussion about our prayer lives.  We will begin by practicing a new form of petitionary and quiet (centering) prayer developed by Laura.  A strong private prayer life is a vital part of our relationship with God and brings a sense of peace and stability in this all-too-often hectic world in which we live.  Is it time for you to move beyond simply talking to God, and to learn methods of listening for guidance and comfort instead?  If so this group is for you.  Join us in the parlor for a new and uplifting experience.

The new Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal brings to the church a sense of the breadth and depth of the Lutheran Church today.  From traditional to gospel, from contemporary to Latino, from chant to praise song, Evangelical Lutheran Worship will help us all explore and celebrate the riches of Gods church.  Funds from memorials have been designated to buy a number of these new hymnals for Grace.  If you would like to purchase one (or more) to honor someone or as a memorial or for use in your home, please fill out a form (located in your Sunday bulletin and/or on one of Graces display tables) and mail it to Grace or place in the offering plate.  The initial price is $17.50 and we plan to place our order by mid-September.  Please include the form with your check payable to Grace ELC.  Thank you!  See hymnal details at

In our prayers we remember,
Raymond and Lillian Boehl; Agnes Calloway; Dorothy Eggleton; Paul Wahlberg; Madeleine Manning; and the Eastwood and Sharkey families

You are invited to join our series of home-based Bible studies.  Steve Walker hosts one in his Medical Center home, and Karen Grubbs hosts one in Spring Branch.  We begin at 7:30 or 8:00 and conclude within 90 minutes.  Refreshments are served.  For our first series, we are using Jean Vanier's Befriending the Stranger, where we find much about brokenness, forgiveness, and transformation, as well as the importance of community.  Pick up a copy at Grace and start reading today!  Sign up on Sundays or speak with Steve (713-823-2615) or Karen (713-461-5255 x 12) about participating.
